name: roman-numerals description: Convert roman numerals to integers.

Roman numerals → integer

Use this skill when the user asks you to convert a Roman numeral (e.g., XIV, MCMXCIV) into a base-10 integer.

Output format

Return only the integer as decimal digits (no extra words or punctuation).

Procedure

  1. Map symbols to values: I=1, V=5, X=10, L=50, C=100, D=500, M=1000.
  2. Walk left to right:
    • If a symbol is followed by a larger symbol, subtract it.
    • Otherwise, add it.
  3. Sum to get the final integer.
